The lyrics to 'the wide' are super simple. They were written all in the morning after having to share a bed with someone who does not love you anymore. The ocean made of sheets, the chasm between two lovers growing wider by the hour. When you want things to appear normal, but you know the division will not stop, but will deepen. You do your best to smile as your ship breaks apart. You pretend that everything is fine as your world is set adrift on a lonely ocean. The sheets become the waves that drown you. But you will only show the smile on your face; the remnant of how you want to be remembered. You'd drown in those tears alone in that bed, but because you share it, you cannot let that be your legacy.
